Teaching and Tutoring: Is There Ever a Time for Telling?

April 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This is the second in a series of workshops for students doing public service in the area of eduation, mentoring, tutoring and youth development.

In the fall workshop, we discussed the most critical shift for teachers and tutors: moving from explainer to strategic question-asker. But when using eliciting, probing, and revoicing strategies, we still sometimes get stuck. Is there ever a time for telling? In the upcoming workshop, we’ll explore different frameworks for considering when to tell and how to tell. We’ll also spend time discussing strategies for improving and refining teaching skills as a team and we’ll practice one such method as a group: video analysis.

Facilitated by Soren Rosier, PhD student in the Graduate School of Education and former middle school teacher
